Police Provincial Director PCol Rolindo M Suguilon, together with Mayor Marcos Mamay and members of different police stations in the province recently conducted a tree-planting activity. The activity was in response with the move to expand the existing protected area in the town of Nunungan.

The initiative was also supported by the members of the Philippine Army and barangay officials particularly held in adjacent communities sorrounding Nunungan Lake.

It can be recalled that Governor Imelda Dimaporo and 2nd District Congressman Abdullah Dimaporo emphasized the importance of the Presidential Executive Order in 2011, the National Greening Program (NGP) in the town as identified area for environmental protection and care with the help of community residents who are considered as steward of the project.

NGP aims to conduct reforestation, reduces poverty, promotes food security, creates alternative livelihoods, and enhances climate change mitigation and adaptation which the PNP is part of the said call.

According to report in 2011-2018, the NGP has successfully reforested over 1.91 million hectares of area i.e. 108 per cent of the original target (1.76 million hectares); planted over 1.5 billion seedlings.

“This is one of the best effort we can consider as legacy of the PNP under the leadership of PD Suguilon with his supportive men and women,” Mayor Mamay said.
