Gawad Amerika is a California-based Foundation established in 1996 with the primary purpose to help and cultivate the skills of Filipino-American achievers who lack the necessary resources to follow their dreams. It has since expanded to recognize the contribution of Filipinos around the world in various fields. It recognizes exceptional contributions on various fields that promote public understanding and interest.
This year Gawad Amerika recognized various organizations and individuals for their stunned performance in their respective fields. The event was held at Celebrity Centre, Hollywood, California.
One of the awardees is Nunungan Mayor Marcos Mamay. He implemented various projects for his beloved town especially the opening of the long-dreamed road network going to the municipal towncenter then to its barangays. The town is now accessible with all types of vehicles unsimilar from its previous road condition that was so muddy.
The provision of street lights using solar energy is another noble project being funded by the national government have been used by local residents. Lots of interventions happening only during the incumbency of Mayor Mamay. Various groups appreciated the performance of the local elected officials.
Alleviating the living standard of people in a place known before as chaotic and undeveloped but through his dedication, hard work, perseverance, sacrifice, passion, love for public service and firm implementation of fitting programs Nunungan has now become one of the places lined on the right track of competence and development.
Other awardees from Philippines were PAO Chief Atty. Persida Acosta, GMA Correspondent Lhar Santiago, Queen of Indie Films Madam Baby Go of BG Production and Mayor Mamay’s son Angelo.
