NUNUNGAN RESPONDERS’ JOIN 5TH NATIONAL DISASTER RESILIENCE CULMINATION

The ultimate goal in emergency preparedness and response drills are to develop a higher level of preparedness. Meanwhile, other goals are often driven by the needs of local responders to undergo significant trainings so that emergency plans are reliable and valid.

Formerly called National Disaster Consciousness Month, the celebration was renamed to National Disaster Resilience Month or NDRM through and Executive Order No. 29 issued by President Rodrigo Duterte on June 28, 2017.

This year, Nunungan Emergency Response Team (NERT) headed by MDRRMO Mark Carillo was one of the teams with eleven municipalities and four national line agencies who joined in a four-day 5th National Disaster Resilience Month Provincial Culmination recently held at Brgy. Sugod, Sultan Naga Dimaporo.

The activity was spearheaded by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) through the support of Provincial Governor Imelda Dimaporo.

Nunungan Mayor Marcos Mamay gave his full commitment to support NERT by providing needed equipment and manpower and to ensure effective disaster preparedness and response congruent with the mandate from NDRRMC.

Different activities highlighted the said event which includes team building, larong pinoy, mangrove planting, water search and rescue (WaSAR), and beach volleyball. NERT placed second in beach volleyball and sack race, and fourth in one mile swimming competition.

This year’s theme is “KATATAGAN SA KALAMIDAD ay Makakamtan Kapag Sapat ang Kaalaman sa Kahandaan”.
