Rice is the most important human food crop in the world, directly feeding more people compared to any other crop. Here, in Lanao del Norte majority of its residents relied on rice everyday.
The municipality of Nunungan has also areas devoted to rice farming. Thus, the Local Government Unit (LGU) with the initiative of local officials headed by Mayor Marcos Mamay provided rice seeds to farm workers using best rice variety. Dinorado is a native upland rice characterized by its pinkish grain, sweet aroma, and good eating quality. This is exotic rice from Arakan Valley. Price is generally 50% higher than ordinary rice.
The Department of Agriculture (DA) has been supporting rice productivity to potential areas in the coastal and upland areas of the province.
Local rice farmers are happy with the development of in Nunungan specially on having good road network. This would help lower down the cost of transporting farm produce going to the towncenters and nearby areas of the province.
